Kopano Maroga's Jesus Thesis translated into German, published by akono Verlag

September 18, 2023

We’re proud to share the news that Kopano Maroga’s sacred and profane debut, Jesus Thesis and Other Critical Fabulations, has been translated into German, and is out on 30 September 2023 from our good friends at akono Verlag.

The translator of the text is Ralph Tharayil, a bilingual Swiss writer, translator and director of South Indian origin living in Berlin. Tharayil works in the fields of text, performance and audio, and writes prose, radio plays and poetry.

Congratulations to Kopano, and we wish Die Jesusthese much success in German-speaking Europe!

uHlanga is proud to present ‘Kruiper-Crawler’, the debut poetry collection from Shane van der Hoven 📗🪲 “In this, their debut, @shanevdh explores both the sprawling Lowveld and the decaying South African city through the metaphor of the Biblical crawler – the grotesque, misunderstood and unfairly maligned creatures of the earth and scrubland. Besmet met ironie en literêre verwysings, mag Kruiper-Crawler se eksoskelet taai en stekelrig lyk. Maar, breek deur tot die sagte binneste en bevind jouself in ’n wêreld van selftwyfel en taalkundige onsekerheid, ’n diep liefde vir die onbekende, en, in die kern, ontdek ’n jong digter watter soort wese hulle moontlik is.” 🕷️ Available in December, you can read more about ‘Kruiper-Crawler’ now at our link in bio. 📷: Amandla Singqoto / Edition Events / LEGACY #uHlanga #KruiperCrawlerPoems #ShanevanderHoven #PoetryCollection #poetry #poet #poems #NewBook

Despite the contextual relevance of Afrikaans to my poetry, I’ve long harboured the desire to make my work accessible to more South Africans.
